I'm interested in the design of 'ordinary' objects, the things that most people have and use in their everyday lives. I've written a Shire book about Wallpaper, and I'm interested in histories of non-elite domestic interiors in Britain.
My doctoral thesis was on the history of the Silver Studio Collection after it was given to Hornsey College of Art in the late 1960s. I've also written about aspects of the Silver Studio while it was a design business.
I'm working on a biography of interwar design advisor Grace Lovat Fraser, whose life and work touches on many of my other areas of interest, namely the history of the design of everyday domestic spaces, and consumer choices in domestic furnishings.
